DVLA endorsements

In the UK, there are different types of alcohol related offence. Each has its own DVLA endorsement code and carries a certain number of penalty points.

The code and the penalty points remain on your licence for a specified amount of time, depending on the offence you have been convicted of. This information is outlined in the table below.

You may be surprised by the number of different alcohol related driving offences. Lots of people do not realise that failing/refusing to provide a specimen without a reasonable excuse is actually against the law. Also, being in charge of a vehicle while intoxicated is not permitted. This means you cannot be in control of a vehicle while over the limit – even if you are just sat in the driver’s seat with the engine on.

For each offence, there is a valid legal defence that can be applied. We can explain which defence is most suitable in your case.

Driving bans

If you are convicted of drink driving, you may also be disqualified for a certain length of time. Once you have served your ban, you can have your driving licence restored. However, the points remain on your licence for the specified period.

This is something to be wary of, because any further endorsements could tip you over the 12 point limit. You will then receive an automatic disqualification. This is called a totting-up ban.

  • I was charged with drink driving and my case looked hopeless. There was witness evidence and forensic evidence. From my first meeting with Abdul he reassured me that we could win the case. Abdul was fantastic and the end result is that I am a happy man as I have kept my driving licence and my job.  Scott McDonald.

  • I was initially somewhat sceptical about keeping my licence, I was stopped for Drink Driving and the costs were high, but the result was excellent, and the money was certainly well spent. I would not hesitate to use DFR again. Michael A.

  • I had never been in court previously, and the prospect was terrifying. I was stopped for Drink Driving, and was looking at a significant disqualification. The result in the circumstances was unbelievable, the solicitor was excellent in presenting my case and explaining the extenuating circumstances. I was overjoyed with the final result.
