Drink drive limits

The drink driving limit in England, Wales and Northern Ireland is 80mg per 100 milligrammes of blood. This is the highest drink drive limit in Europe. The drink drive limit in Scotland is different to the rest of the UK at 50mg per 100 milligrammes of blood. This is the standard threshold across most of Europe.

Drink drive accidents

The government has been publishing detailed reports on drink drive accidents since 1979. Over the years, there has been a significant downward trend in the number of incidents. However, that is not to say that drink drive accidents do not occur. In 2016, it was estimated that there were –

  • 6,070 drink drive accidents
  • 9,040 casualties caused by drink drive accidents
  • 230 deaths caused by drink drive accidents

The figures show males are more likely to be involved in a drink drive accident than females.

Our success rates

At DFR Solicitors, we have successfully defended -

  • 87% of all drink driving cases
  • 92% of cases where the prosecution was relying on a blood sample
  • 97% of cases where the prosecution was relying on a blood sample taken in hospital
  • 93% of cases where the prosecution was relying on a urine sample
  • 91% of all drink driving special reasons cases

These are extremely high success rates. We achieve this by combining our knowledge and expertise, along with the use of reliable experts. We know how to establish that the prosecution’s case is defective and can use this skill to your benefit.

Often, people come to us convinced that they will lose their licence. Their case may even have been rejected by other solicitors, or they may have been advised to plead guilty. If you are in this position, please contact us for a second opinion. Even if there looks to be no way forward, there may be a tactical defence that other solicitors had not considered.

  • I was charged with drink driving and my case looked hopeless. There was witness evidence and forensic evidence. From my first meeting with Abdul he reassured me that we could win the case. Abdul was fantastic and the end result is that I am a happy man as I have kept my driving licence and my job.  Scott McDonald.

  • I was initially somewhat sceptical about keeping my licence, I was stopped for Drink Driving and the costs were high, but the result was excellent, and the money was certainly well spent. I would not hesitate to use DFR again. Michael A.

  • I had never been in court previously, and the prospect was terrifying. I was stopped for Drink Driving, and was looking at a significant disqualification. The result in the circumstances was unbelievable, the solicitor was excellent in presenting my case and explaining the extenuating circumstances. I was overjoyed with the final result.
